Make Your Home
A Haven of Love

“Through wisdom a house is built,
And by understanding it is established;
By knowledge the rooms are filled
With all precious and pleasant riches."

Proverbs 24:3-4

In distance times past, heart was indeed where the home was, in a large part because of the deep values of wise, moral, and spiritual centered parents. As best they could, they created homes with beauty, comfort and contentment. Home was a haven of protection that nurtured and sustained the family members that dwelled there with love.

Over the last century this has sadly changed. Due to changing social mores and a fast paced world, homes today are way too often filled with tension, anger, discord, and misunderstandings. High tech has largely replaced high touch; but this was never God’s plan for families. “Home” should especially be the place where we feel safe, valued, encouraged and accepted and where our hearts should always long to return. The words “I love you” are not spoken as often as they should, but instead are replaced instead with text messages or tweets on what is going on.

All of this is not how God created us to be a family, but scripture shows us what kind of atmosphere of true LOVE ought to be in our home:

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth”
1 Corinthians 13:4-6

Later in that chapter it goes on to say that “the greatest of these is love.”

Our home reflects who we are, so let us make it a place of light, love, creativity, and peace, not just for yourself and your family, but for everyone who enters it. Make your home resonate with the love and beauty of Christ and it will truly be a “haven” you and your family will always long to return to.

God Bless Your Day
