Famous American philosopher David Thoreau said
“The mass of men lead lives of quite desperation.”
He concludes saying that people’s desires
— be they for wealth, power, pleasure
or a variety of things — are an “Unconscious Despair”
presumably seeking after a promise of something better.
Ultimately all these things are
IDOLS THAT PROMISE YOU SOMETHING,
but when life ends these idols
which you thought would make you happy wind up being
lifeless, powerless, temporary...and Worthless.
Jesus said, “Where your treasure is,
there will your heart be also”
and “A good man out of the good
treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good;
and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart
bringeth forth that which is evil:
for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”
'Idols' come in many forms - even ones that appear innocent -
and that’s why the first of the 10 Commandments is
“You shall not have any other gods before me”
because when you put God first, the greatest treasure you will
ulitimately have is one that will last for eternity.
Friend, there is nothing greater than putting God first,
because when you leave this life, all that is WORTHLESS
is left behind and all that is WORTH HAVING is eternal.
What is your life’s treasure? And what is it
that you are longing for?
