On the first day of Kindergarten, all us children were
standing in line waiting to enter the classroom.
Back then we all carried metal lunch boxes
and also had a quarter to pay for 'milk money' —
then at the ridiculously low price of 5¢ a day!
Well, one naughty boy thought it would be fun to grab a quarter
from a little girl’s hand, rushed to a grate in front
of our classroom door and threatened to throw the quarter into it.
A couple of boys joined in, egging him on while the little girl
frantically cried to get it back, and unfortunately I also stupidly decided
to 'get in on the fun.' Unbeknownst to us,
the principal’s office was also right by our classroom,
and he bounded out towards us saying in a booming, commanding voice
“What Are You Boys DOING?!?”
He then marched us all into his office, gave us a stern lecture
- all of which I forgot except for his closing words
“…And I NEVER want to see ANY of
you boys in here AGAIN!”
Thankfully, this was the best thing that could have ever
happened to me. I never again was in the principal’s
office, and learned a valuable lesson to always stay away from
people like that mischievous little boy.
The reality is that — “You ARE who you Associate With”—
so when you associate with bad people, chances are you’ll also
wind up in trouble too!
Friend, as Romans 13:13 exhorts, live a decent life for all to see,
not participating in wild activities and immoral living. Instead,
as 1 John 1:7 instructs:
“If we walk in the light as
He (Christ) is in the light, we have
fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus Christ
His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
