There’s a funny joke about a fire-and-brimstone pastor
in a small country church preachin' up a storm about
the evils of sin. He ranted and raved for an hour
and ended his sermon by shouting,
“Can anyone here say that they
LOVE SIN?!?!“
One old guy in the back row raised his hand.
The shocked preacher said,
“Sir, do you mean to tell me and
before God that you love sin?!?“
to which the old fella replied,
“Oh! I’m sorry pastor!
I though you said do you love GIN.”
Well as funny as that is, there’s great deal of truth to that.
You see, things that are sinful ARE fun and exciting like
living the fast life with sex, money, drugs/drinking and
enjoying all the earthly pleasures and riches the world has to offer.
The fact of the matter is, that’s the way we are wired as humans,
and these things DO appeal to us. That is undeniable!
The Bible calls these desires THE FLESH,
and we have to be honest with ourselves about what we
are really seeking in our life and how we choose to handle it.
That is, do we just follow our fleshly desires
and go with the flow of the world or go a different way?
The Apostle Paul knew this battle of the flesh himself when he wrote
“I speak after the manner of men because of
the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded
your members servants to uncleanness
and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now
yield your members servants to
RIGHTEOUSNESS unto HOLINESS.” (Romans 6:19)
The question then that tells exactly where we are in our spiritual
journey (or lack thereof) in this life is this:
—Do you ENJOY SINNING or
Do you NOT ENJOY IT?—
If the former, all power to you to 'Do As Thou Please.'
That is your free will! But if not...
“Yield yourselves unto God,
as those that are alive from the dead,
and your members as
instruments of righteousness unto God.” (Romans 6:13)
...because when you go beyond the love of sin (and)
“do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again;
...your reward shall be great.“ (Luke 6:35)
