British writer, literary scholar, and theologian
C.S. Lewis was a prolific defender of the Christian faith
and author of many famous books. In his short article
You Shall Last Forever he explains two evident
truths not understood from most. First, that the church
will last forever and second, everyone will also
last forever.
That is quite simply, immortality is our eternal state –
but what will that eternal state be?
Today’s scripture quote gives the answer.
Because of Christ’s victory over death by rising from
the dead and leading the way for the world from death,
we can also be joint heirs over death and share in His victory.
Like Christ, we must also die – not simply a natural death –
but die to our old sin nature. As the Apostle Paul writes in
1 Corinthians 15:31 it is our crucifixion of the natural self
which gives us the passport to everlasting life, because nothing
that has not died can be resurrected, and that happens by taking
upon yourself the righteousness of Christ by
asking Him for forgiveness of all of your sins and placing His
will as #1 as the Lord and Savior of your life.
Lewis closes his article saying, “We are marble waiting
to be shaped, metal waiting to be run into a mold”
and this will be those in a heavenly eternity of perfection
that is beyond our wildest dreams or
imaginations, just as the Bible promises:
“Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, either have entered
into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for
them that love him.”
1 Corinthians 2:9
There are one of two eternities we will all go.
Which eternity will you step into?
