Faith in God
-vs-
Faith in Your Faith

Do you have Faith in God or 'faith in your faith??' This question not only applies to you if you are not a Christian, but even more so if you are a Christian! The reason why is that over the last fifty years we have been programmed into into a SELF-HELP way of thinking. That is, that all things are possible if one works hard, applies oneself and fervently believes in their own talents and ability. When you do that, than as the thousands of self-help books teach, anything is possible.

Now hear me out! There is nothing wrong with having a positive attitude, having confidence to move forward and venture out into new challenges in life, and conquer new opportunities that present themselves!! There is indeed an element of truth in this approach, but a subtle and important distinction here is that there is a very fine line which can easily be crossed that while it may indeed lead to worldly success will lead to spiritual ruin if based on faith solely in yourself.

The Apostle Paul wrote about the source of what is possible when true faith is applied as God intended when he wrote:

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Philippians 4:13

The key to understanding this is how we read this verse! It is not the “I CAN” part but the “THROUGH CHRIST” part of this verse that is the true source of faith. You see, we have no real power in ourselves to do anything, but it comes from the power of the Holy Spirit working inside of us that actually does the work. So if your faith is based on YOUR faith and not faith in God, you may experience worldly success, but in the spiritual realm you are always destined to fail.

Friend, do not place your trust in yourself or your faith in your faith but put your faith in the one who not only is always faithful, but HE WHO IS THE SOURCE OF FAITH.
