In the hands of a master potter, beautiful objects are formed out of raw clay.
The clay in it’s natural state has no form, and it takes the potter’s
skilled hands to mold it into something useful and beautiful.
As today’s verse says, there are some however that think that they do not need
the potter or that the potter does not know what he is doing, yet this is exactly
the attitude many have towards God.
The Bible says that not only did He “Form us in our mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:13)
but that we must “Acknowledge that the LORD is God! He made us, and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.” Yet despite that, we seem fit to mold ourselves.
So you see, in order to be formed by the master artist, you have to take yourself out of the center
of the potter’s wheel and let the Master’s hands form and mold you. When you do as he
purifies and shapes you, then and only then “shall come forth a vessel for the finer”
that is “fit for the master’s use.”
