The Bible declares that God is a unique, one-of-a-kind being. No idea, object, or person is comparable to Him. His various names show that He is always at work and has certain moral attributes that define His character to be holy, righteous, loving, and wise.
Some sects like the door-to-door JWs claim his name is simply “Yahweh” or “Jehovah”, and most Bible translations likewise translate His name simply as LORD or GOD, but the truth is that God has over 900 names mentioned in the Bible and all of these names characterize the “breadth” and “depth” of God’s personality.
God loves for us to call His names to Him out loud and to memorize His names upon our hearts. It’s reassuring for us to know that when we do call His name for any of our needs in prayer or to praise Him that He pays close attention and immediately comes to our side.
Here are just ten of His NAMES:
- ELOHIM: God, Creator, Mighty and Strong
- YAHWEH: Lord
- JEHOVAH: The Lord Will Provide
- JEHOVAH RAPHA: The Lord Who Heals
- JEHOVAH SHALOM: The Lord Our Peace
- JEHOVAH NISSI: The Lord Our Banner
- ABBA: Our Father
- YESHUA: Jehovah Our Savior
- ALPHA AND OMEGA: Beginning and the End
- EMMANUEL: God With Us
When you pray, use these names and call them out to the Lord and call His Names in times of need.
