Eagles are known for their strength, skill and amazing eyesight, and their nature is to soar and fly high on the winds of the heavens. But mighty as they may be, even eagles can become ill. A recent documentary was about an eagle that had unfortunately contracted lead poisoning and found on the ground lifeless and near death. It had lost half of his body weight and was very docile and lifeless which is contrary to a healthy eagle’s nature, but after many months of care and proper nourishment by a skilled eagle curator, combined with the sickly bird’s cooperation and desire to live, did the stricken eagle eventually gain back his strength and was released back into the wild.
Like the eagles that naturally soar high above, today’s verse reminds us likewise that when we give our hearts to follow God and make Him our Lord and Savior, we have the Spirit of God living within us to lift our wings to soar like the eagle.
However there may be times when like the sick eagle, we fall into weakness, but like the eagle’s nature, we likewise were not created to lie down and give up when circumstances cause us to crumble and cave in. No! We were created to overcome and be victorious! But if or when you are down, what is the path to recovery? The answer is to be nourished by God’s Word to renew our strength.
Like that determined sickly eagle, we also need to stay determined and focused on our recovery to health and know that we are not alone. God is our caretaker and His Word is our nourishment and the sustainer of our health and well-being. Just like the story of the sick eagle, when you are down, recovery is possible! The key as Isaiah wrote is faith and HOPE in God.
If you’re feeling down, it’s time for a new beginning! Start flappin’ your wings of faith and hope so you too can lift yourself up again and soar!
