Jesus Is The Way
To Holiness

“Be ye HOLY as I AM holy.”
1 Peter 1:16

Jesus-Holiness The word Hebrew word for HOLY in the Old Testament is QODESH. It is mentioned over four hundred times in the Old Testament and it means set apart, sacredness, or separateness. All these are character qualities of God because He is altogether holy, sacred, and set apart and above man and all creation.

The New Testament Greek word for holy is HAGIOS and it means much the same thing as QODESH and it means pure, morally blameless or set apart for holy use. Hagios appears one hundred eighty times and this tells us that God thinks that holiness is important for us and that we should also be holy as well - and hold in high regard that He is HOLY.

But how can we be holy since we are fallen creatures and our nature is anything but holy? The answer is that our growth toward holiness is achieved by having the mind of Christ and not being conformed to this world (Rom 12:1-2). When we transform our minds, attitudes, habits and behaviors we can be set apart, made holy and be 'fit for the master’s use.'

We are called to be holy as God is holy because as the church we are:

“…a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,
a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the
excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness
into his marvelous light.”

1 Peter 2:9

So Christian, to be 'Fit For The Master's Use' we are called to live a life of holiness! Therefore, let the Holy Spirit work in you to make you more like God, and over time you will move from a sin-nature towards a holy-nature and live a life that is more pleasing to God. Do you want to be holy? If so, remember this:

Holiness is not the way to Jesus -
JESUS IS THE WAY TO HOLINESS.
