Your Expected End

“For I know the thoughts
I have for you, saith the LORD,
thoughts of peace, and not of evil,
to give you an expected end.”

Jeremiah 29:11

Christians often say, “God is Good, ALL the Time!” and while we may say it, we don’t always believe it. Today’s verse says that God has thoughts of peace (that is “wholeness”) and for no evil to come against us, but in the back of our mind based on our current circumstances we may not always believe that. Have you caught yourself falling into that category?

We all have trials in life. Instead of wholeness in our lives, we often experience division, separation, and conflict due to divorce, loss of a family member, failure of a business or numerous other trials. None of these may be the ‘expected end’ that we hoped for, so where is God in all this you may ask? Are these not ‘evil things?’ Yes…but re-read the verse!

His thoughts towards us are always good, and never evil, and he always has a good plan that we may not see that leads to an ‘expected end.’

Of course the ultimate end is eternity. If you have committed your allegiance to God, have asked for forgiveness for the sins in your life and received Christ, then this is an easy answer as you will be in eternity in heaven with God. This is the final “expected end” shown in the verse above…but there are earthly ‘expected ends’ as well.

Jesus said in John 16:33, “Be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” The word “overcome” is the same as the name of the running shoe “NIKE” which in Greek literally means “victory.” Because Jesus has overcome the world and we are “in” Christ (Colossians 3:3) then you also have the victory! If you look back on a previous trial in your life, perhaps you may see that the final ‘expected end’ was ultimately something good.

If you are going through a tough time in life at the moment, stand on the promise of Jeremiah 29:11 and know that God’s thoughts towards you are good and thoughts of wholeness. It may still be away off, but the expected end is always one of peace and wholeness.
