“When pride comes,
Then comes disgrace, but
With the Humble is WISDOM.”

Proverbs 11:2

Humility is elusive, because once you think you have it, you don’t - or you wouldn’t think you did.

There’s a story of a boy who received the Most Humble badge, but had it taken away because he wore it. If There Is Anything GOD HATES, It’s Pride.

If you think about it, what do we as human beings really have to be prideful about? Consider Psalm 23 and ask yourself, who is doing the work here? It says:

He makes me...He leads me...He restores my soul...
You are with me...Your rod and Your staff comfort me...
You
prepare a table...You anoint my head...”

It is God who is the Giver of Life, the only One who deserves the applause:

“Know ye that the LORD he is God
It is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;
We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”

Psalm 100:3

The Lord God Almighty takes the credit, not because His ego needs it, but because we cannot handle it. Too much adulation swells our heads and pretty soon we think we are in control of everything.

One last thought: If you feel the need for recognition you don’t need to drop names or show off, but pause at the base of the cross and be reminded that the maker of the stars would rather die for you than live without you.

You can brag about THAT!!
