In the old west in the 1880’s a hotel caught fire in
the middle of the night. The staff frantically ran down the
halls banging on each guest’s door shouting,
“Fire! Fire! Get out and save your lives!!”
There were four responses to this dire call.
Some thought it was a prankster and did not believe it, and they went
back to sleep. Others got angry that their sleep was interrupted,
and they also went back to sleep. Others were sleeping so soundly
and totally oblivious to the world that they never heard the call.
Lastly there were a few that heard the call and heeded it,
followed the way to safety - and their lives were spared.
People respond to the call of the gospel in the same way.
Some think it is all a big joke and ignore it, and others
are angry at God and “Religious People” making “noise”
and disturbing their lives.
Then there are those so oblivious in their own pleasures,
projects, and pursuits that they don't even hear the message at all.
However God is calling out to all people that there is a fire up ahead
and he is giving a loving warning to flee the danger before it comes.
Are you one of the first three types of people in this story?
Be like the last group of people.
If you have not done so, hear the call, answer it, and follow the path
to safety. That safety is only found in Christ alone.
