Unsurpassed Beauty
“He hath made everything beautiful in its time. also he has set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end. .”
Ecclesiastes 3:11
A “must-see” attraction outside of the typical sights in Washington D.C. is the HILLWOOD HOUSE of
former businesswoman, socialite, and collector Marjorie Merriweather Post.
Known for its beautifully decorated rooms, impressive
architecture and grounds, large decorative arts collection of 18th and 19th century French art as well
as a world-class Fabergé egg collection, this estate is immensely impressive.
However on my visit there, my fascination was captured in the garden conservatory of
one of the country’s finest orchid collections. In particular, one orchid captured my eye to
such a degree that I was mesmerized by it for at least five minutes - such was the intricacy and
infinity of its beauty.
Despite our best artistic abilities, there is no comparison to God’s creation.
Jesus said that even King Solomon in all his Glory was not dressed as
beautifully as the lilies of the field. (Luke 12:27)
Take pause today and thank God for the beauty of his creation. Look up to the sky
and cherish the ever changing shape and colors of the clouds, the twinkling of
sunlight reflecting off of snow on a sunny day, or the dance of sparkling water
running along a stream. These simple things are not only free, but unsurpassed in their
beauty.
As the old hymn says, “Jesus doeth all things well!”
