Speak Gracefully To Others
“Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord;
looking carefully less anyone fall short of the grace of God;
lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble,
and by this many become defiled”
Hebrews 12:14-15
There’s a sign that hangs in our kitchen that says:
As we look back on relationships, it’s so important to recognize how we may have mistakenly treated others.
We have all been guilty of making a big fuss and causing dissension or division and can honestly say that
we have “put our foot in our mouth” not just once, but maybe more than we’d like to admit!
Careless words can and have caused serious damage to once close relationships and may even have
broken someone’s heart. The Apostle James put it this way:
“The tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things.
Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!”
James 3:5
Being a good communicator starts with listening with empathy and responding PRAYERFULLY.
Acknowledge what the other person is saying without pre-judging and don’t interrupt.
When you need to speak, ask the other person to listen to your view point and make sure you communicate your feelings kindly.
The goal is for you both to respect the other’s reasonings and feelings, and then to find a peaceful solution between you.
You may find that the problem was easily resolved and you both have cleared the air.
If not, be aware of your own feelings and take in some deep breaths to keep yourself calm.
If at some point you need to process what happened, protect yourself and avoid stress.
Find a space for a while and consider taking a walk and asking God to give your His wisdom and insight.
Remember that God loves them too, just as much as He loves you. God’s Word instructs us this clearly with:
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another,
just as God also forgave you in Christ.”
Ephesians 4:2
Let us all make it our goal to be an understanding and caring listener, “Speaking the Truth in LOVE.” (Ephesians 4:15)
God Bless Your Day
