Understanding The Trinity

“For there are three that
bear record in heaven,
the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost:
and these three are one.”

1 John 5:7

Did you know that The Lord himself is like the military?

As with earthly nations, God is like the different branches of the military with each serving a particular purpose. A comprehensive military can not consist of a single branch, but all have to work together as a team to accomplish the goal or task.

In Genesis, the Bible says “Let US make man in OUR (plural) Image” (Genesis 1:26) God is ONE but has three distinct parts that makes up the whole. Just like the different branches of military service, God has different functions depending on the purpose:

Analogous To   Area of Action   Person of the Godhead   Scripture Reference
Air Force  Air The Holy Spirit  Acts 2:2
Navy  Water  Jesus Christ  John 4:11
Army  Land  The Father  Genesis 1:7

As you can see from this analogy, understanding the “Trinity” is not so hard once you put it into context. Again like the cohesive military of a country, the personalities of God work together using the applicable personage to accomplish His will. Just as the Air Force would not put a plane in the sea or the Navy a Ship on the ground or the Army a tank in the sky, so God moves and acts appropriately. The scripture tell us “The LORD our God is One God” (Deuteronomy 6:4) and the GODHEAD acts and moves through power at different times in different ways as He sees fit.

In this life, we “see through a glass now darkly” and in our limited knowledge and mind cannot fully comprehend the vastness of God, but we can understand who he is and how he moves. God’s Ways are indeed above our ways, so let us always honour and praise him for his unfathomable majesty and power!
