Your Words Are POWERFUL!
“For the word of God is alive and active and it is sharper than any double-edged sword. It penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12
What a ponderous scripture this is!
Are you aware of the power you have in your words? Words don’t have to be loud to catch someone’s attention. A soft word gently spoken can calm even a storm. A kind word makes you smile. It might give you wings to accomplish something you never had the courage to do. The opposite is true when someone says something unkind or negative. It might hurt your feelings, make you feel sad, even harm your self-confidence or turn you away. Yes, your words carry great power, so be very careful and “think” about the other person’s feelings before you speak. Make sure they bring life, hope and encouragement.
“A man has joy by the answer of his mouth,
and a word spoken in due season,
how good it is!”
Proverbs 15:23
“Pleasant words are like honeycomb,
sweetness to the soul and
health to the bones.”
Proverbs 16:24
God’s words of life are transforming, able to change our mood and our attitude from negative to positive. His words can even move mountains out of our lives and send them into the sea. Jesus said it this way:
“It is the Spirit who gives life;
the flesh profits nothing.
The words I speak to you are spirit,
and they are life.”
John 6:63
Remember: Your words give life or death, can either wound or heal, and carry great weight.
If you have difficulty choosing the right words at times, pray as David prayed to set his words right:
“Let the words of my mouth and the
meditation of my heart be acceptable in your
your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.”
Psalm 19:4
