A Tandem Ride
With Jesus

A Story About Life’s Journey
Author Unknown

I used to think of God as my observer, my judge, keeping track of the things I did wrong, so as to know whether I merited heaven or hell when I die.

He was out there, sort of like the President...I knew His name, but I didn’t really know Him. But later on when I met Jesus, it seemed as though life was rather like a tandem bike, and I noticed that Jesus was in the back helping me pedal.

I don’t recall just when it was when Jesus suggested we change seats, but life has not been the same since I took the back-seat to Jesus, my Lord. When I had control I thought I knew the way. It was sometimes scary, sometimes boring, but rather predictable. It was the shortest distance between two points, but Jesus makes life exciting! When He took the lead He knew the coolest scenic views and short cuts up mountains, and through rocky places at break-through speeds. It was all I could do to hang on!

Even though it often looked like madness, He said, “Keep Pedaling!” I was worried and anxious and asked, “Where are you taking me?” He laughed and didn’t answer and suddenly something changed inside me… I started to learn to trust Him. I forgot my meaningless, boring life and entered into a thrilling adventure. And when I’d say, "I’m scared", He’d lean back and touch my hand and say, “Keep Pedaling”

We pedaled to meet people who gave me gifts that Jesus already knew I needed...gifts of healing, acceptance and joy. They had these gifts and they generously gave them to me to take on my journey, our journey, my Lord’s and mine. And we were off again. He said, “Give the gifts away, they’re extra baggage, too much weight.” So I did. I gave them to the people we met and I found in giving I received, and then our burden was light. Funny that I didn’t trust Him at first to have control of my life. I thought He’d wreck it, but He knows all about bikes and how to make a bike bend to take sharp corners, jump to clear high rocks and to fly us just about anywhere! I’m learning to pedal in the strangest places and I’m always excited to enjoy the view, the cool breeze on my face with my delightful constant companion, Jesus. And when I’m sure I just can’t petal any more, He just smiles and says... “Keep Pedaling.”

My friend, when you find Jesus you will have the most exciting life, too. You will be amazed at the special places He will take you and the friends you will meet along the way. There’s so much He can show you and teach you. Why don’t you open your heart and let Him in today? You’ll be oh, so glad you did!.
