What Truly Is
'Good Works'

At first glance, it’s easy to interpret today’s verse that if you do not 'Work Out Your Faith' by doing acts of service then you are deceiving yourself about what it takes to be a Christian and be saved. Taken by itself that seems clear, but in order to really understand what the Bible teaches it’s always important to compare scripture with scripture.

For example, Ephesians 2:8 says that “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” and Acts 16:31 tells us that all that is needed to be saved is to believe in Christ. That’s all that the thief on the cross next to Christ did! He did no 'Good Works' of service to God in his life, yet by his simple confession of faith, he also was saved.

So given that, let’s take a look at this verse instead this way…

What if the question is “What Part Of The 'True' of 'Do' means to You?” That is, what is your attitude about what 'doing' does for your relationship and perceived obedience to God?

You see, the fruit of service that flows OUT OF our faith is our Thankfulness Of Our Salvation! And that service of thankfulness doesn’t strictly mean being a missionary to a far away land, out of obligation attending church several times each week, or counting how many hours we were doing things in 'service.' All of us can and do serve God in many ways; by being faithful to our children, families, job, community or in a variety of other ways.

Friend, please don’t deceive yourself by thinking that doing lots of good stuff (works) is your seal on the envelope for your ticket to heaven! Because when you are truly obedient to God and listening to His Word and voice, the fruit of your life will naturally bring forth GOOD WORKS.
