When Moses ascended Mt. Sinai to meet the LORD
he saw the lightening, heard the thunder
and marveled the miraculous, only then to behold the
powerful, emphatic voice of the one true Holy God saying
“Moses, Moses! Do not draw near this place.
Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where
you stand is HOLY GROUND.”
No one since has experienced the emmense awesomeness of God,
but have you ever stopped to ponder what the AWESOMENESS of God
really means??
In Isaiah 6:3 the prophet wrote “Holy, Holy, Holy
is the Lord God Almighty.” God is not just a little bit holy,
but totally truly, Truly, HOLY AND AWESOME and
worthy of our most profound respect of Him in supreme reverence and awe.
Only He - and everything about Him - is truly
worthy to be called AWESOME and worthy
of praise, admiration and respect,
yet instead of honoring his awesomeness, we often and glibly
use the word 'awesome' as a common everyday adjective.
His holiness reminds us as a warning that we humans are
laden with a sinful, fallen nature. The contrast of His awesomenes
to our natural sinful ntaure requires us to thoughtfully
live our lives by emulating and respecting Him as important.
Friend, next time you think to use the word 'awesome' consider
both WHO and WHAT are truly AWESOME — and worthy of AWE.
