Many years ago I was a personal trainer at a gym
on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. One of my clients was a
famous congressman - and he always proved to be a challenge to work with.
You see, the whole idea of going to a personal trainer is to help them
evaluate your strengths, determine your weaknesses,
and develop a plan to discipline yourself to regularly practice exercises
to help build your body as a balanced system of strength and agility.
This fellow had a common problem that most people have and
that’s having a WEAK CORE, and this was my #1 item
on my clipboard plan for him. Well, one session while leading him in
essential core exercises he stopped abruptly and said in a rather selfish tone,
“I don’t want to do YOUR Exercises.
I only want to do the exercises I WANT TO DO!”
This is also how a lot of people approach their spiritual growth with God.
They don’t want to work on the areas of their life that are weak,
but on things that make them feel good about themselves
or appear to be more 'spiritual' to others!
Friend, The Holy Spirit is your PERSONAL SPIRITUAL TRAINER and He is always speaking
to guide you to be transformed into Christ’s image - and not your own.
When you let the Holy Spirit guide your life,
you won’t want to be doing what your sinful nature craves. (Galatians 5:16)
So as you work on your spiritual strength and growth,
which clipboard will you be working off of?
