Love has always been a popular subject!
We often speak of 'Loving Life' the love of family,
loving our work, loving our favorite sports team,
or loving our home or where we live.
While all these are indeed good,
at first glance it might appear that any kind of
'love' is Good, but 1 John 2:15 warns us
of something NOT to love, and that is
NOT Love The World
and 'Things
In It'…but what does that mean?
The original Greek word here for 'THINGS'
is curiously our most commonly used word in all languages
of 'THE' and it is this 'THE' part that is the
'thing' of not just something but, EVERYthing.
While that might sound or read a bit confusing, consider this.
We therefore cannot choose of our own free will to
indiscriminately embrace or love anything and everything,
yet in today’s world, the common cry is that
“Love is Love“ and by implication
ANY kind of love, no matter how odd, unusual and especially immoral
is OK because what’s wrong with “Love?!?”
Instead God’s Word tells us to NOT love evil more than good
(Psalm 52:3) to NOT feign love towards others (Romans 12:9),
and to NOT seek a love for money (1 Timothy 6:10)…and in this day and age
of free love towards anyone for any reason,
be forewarned that they which practice illicit 'love'
take heed that God is not mocked,
“Who knowing the judgment of God,
that they which commit such things are worthy of death,
not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” (Romans 1:32)
Friend, not all love is pure or good! so
let us practice true love on this wise
as Ephesians 5:1-2 says:
“Be imitators of God, as beloved children;
and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you
and gave Himself up for us.”
