Commitment
-vs-
Sacrifice

“Present your bodies (as) a living sacrifice (that is)
Holy (and) acceptable unto God
Which is your reasonable service.”

Romans 12:1

Chicken+Pig Comedian Phylliss Diller once related a story about a high-profile Hollywood charity fundraiser. With a room full of famous celebrities, the opening pledge by one actor was $10,000. Then a well-known actress pledged $20,000 and the amounts kept going up and up until one renowned director committed to giving $100,000. Everyone walked out congratulating themselves — but in the end none of them actually laid down one dollar.

You see, there is a huge difference between 'Pledging a Commitment' and “Making a Sacrifice.” For example, when it comes to making breakfast, The Chicken makes a contribution, but the Pig is fully committed!

Likewise the Christian life is not just making a 'commitment' by “going forward at the end of a church service, ” or “reciting the Sinner’s Prayer” or joining a church. It is a whole life dedication to obeying God and having life conformed to His image and His likeness.

Friend, The Christian life is NOT easy. It goes beyond a casual commitment and requires serious sacrifice. When we consider all that God has done to forgive our sins and has given us the promise and assurance of eternal life, this indeed - at the very minimum - is our REASONABLE SERVICE.
